Expectations
1.2. EXPECTATIONS OF ALL TEACHERS
It is expected of all teachers at Padua, whether they are members of the Catholic faith or not, to be faithful in their teaching to Catholic doctrines and moral principles. In particular, they should encourage the faith of their students in the Gospels and the proper teaching authority of the Church. |
Catholic teachers should do their best to live out their faith and its evangelical way of life. All teachers in Catholic schools should avoid behaviour, both at school and out of school in their private lives that would weaken the school's Catholic ethos or have a negative influence on their students’ practice of their faith and moral principles. This is a duty they owe the pupils, their parents, the school and the Church itself.
"Formation and education in a Catholic School must be based on the principles of Catholic doctrine and the teachers must be outstanding in true doctrine and uprightness of life."
This is so because parents bear the principal responsibility for the education of their children. Catholic schools and their teachers are there to help parents fulfil their role in the Christian formation of their children. The Church's law endorses these principles.
Each teacher employed at Padua is obliged to adhere to the principles enunciated in the College Vision and Mission Statements.
All staff must be familiar with the College Vision and Mission Statements and the College Welfare Policy.
All staff are expected to participate in major College celebrations and events: e.g. College Eucharist (at commencement and end of year), Oral Reporting Sessions.
All teachers are responsible for the pastoral care and discipline of all students. It is our individual professional responsibility to ensure that students adhere to the College regulations in all areas e.g. uniform, litter, care of property, punctuality. Similarly, staff are expected to model appropriate standards in all areas.
